올 여름 개체 수가 눈에 띄게 증가한 러브버그 관련 서울시에 접수된 불편 신고가 지난해보다 27% 증가했다.이동규 고신대 보건환경학과 석좌교수는 "온난화와 습한 날씨는 천적이 없는 러브버그가 늘어날 수밖에 없는 좋은 환경"이라고 설명했다.

이 교수는 24일 CBS라디오 '김현정의 뉴스쇼'에서 러브버그의 개체 수가 급증한 이유에 대해 이같이 전하며 "러브버그가 자동차에서 나오는 배기가스와 열을 좋아하다 보니 숲보다 도심을 찾는 것 같다.사람 몸에도 열이 있으니까 사람 몸에도 붙는 것"이라고 했다.

러브버그는 파리의 일종으로 산속 숲이 우거진 곳에 잘 조성된 낙엽층(부식층)에 알을 낳는다.유충들은 부식층을 먹으며 성장한다.숲속의 영양물질을 분해해 거름으로 만들어 식물들이 흡수할 수 있게 한다.성충도 다른 포식성 곤충이나 조류의 먹이가 되기에 먹이 피라미드에서도 중요한 역할이다.

아무리 익충이라고 해도 개체 수가 많아져 불편 신고가 증가하고 있다.서울시에 따르면 러브버그 관련된 불편 신고가 지난해보다 27% 증가했다.이 교수는 개체 수 조절에 대해 "살충제를 쓰지 않고 물로만 뿌려도 퇴치가 된다"가 된다고 강조했다.살충제를 쓰더라도 천적이 없기 때문에 해결이 되지 않고,포커스 타즈 입출금비행 힘이 약해 호스로 (러브버그가 많이 붙어 있는 곳을)청소하는 방법으로도 충분하다는 설명이다.
