변동성이 큰 에너지와 식료품을 제외한 근원 CPI 상승률은 전년 동월 대비 3.2%,경막외 신경 차단술 보험적용전월 대비 0.2% 올랐다.시장 예상치(각각 3.2%·0.2%)에 부합하는 수치다.

이에 Fed의 9월 금리 인하 가능성은 한층 높아졌다.전날 발표된 7월 생산자물가지수(PPI)도 전년 대비 2.2% 상승하며 6월(2.7%)보다 오름폭을 줄였다.제이미 콕스 해리스금융그룹 이사는 “이 같은 데이터가 계속해서 나온다면 Fed는 올해 추가로 금리를 인하할 여지가 충분할 것”이라고 내다봤다.

미 경제성장률이 올 2분기 2.8%(연율)를 나타내는 가운데 물가상승률이 둔화 흐름을 이어가는 건,미 경제가 경기 침체 없이 연착륙에 성공할 수 있다는 시장 기대를 키우고 있다.금융시장에서는 기준금리 빅컷(0.50%포인트 인하) 전망도 나오고 있다.

이날 CPI 발표 직후 CME 페드워치는 오는 9월 Fed가 기준금리를 0.25%포인트 인하할 확률을 58.5%로 예상했다.빅컷 확률은 41.5%였다.

시장은 이제 고용지표로 눈을 돌리고 있다.앞서 이달 초 미 노동부가 발표한 7월 고용보고서가 시장 예상과는 차이를 보이면서,고용시장이 급속하게 냉각되고 있다는 우려가 커졌다.비농업 일자리가 전월 대비 11만4000명 늘어 예상치를 크게 하회하고,실업률이 4.3%로 상승세를 나타내면서다.

미 노동부는 다음 달 초 8월 고용보고서를 발표한다.고용시장이 급속하게 냉각되는 조짐을 보인다면 경기 침체 우려에 다시 불이 붙을 수 있다.
