한국타이어앤테크놀로지(한국타이어)는 타이어를 재활용해 만든 업사이클 롱보드가 독일 '레드닷 디자인 어워드 2024'에서 지속가능성 분야 본상을 받았다고 7일 알렸다.

한국타이어에 따르면 업사이클 롱보드는 이 회사의 지속가능 프로젝트 '리무브'를 통해 탄생했다.리무브 프로젝트는 폐기물을 치운다는 의미를 넘어 '재활용해 다시 달릴 수 있도록 하겠다'는 의지가 담겨 있다고 회사는 설명했다.

이 롱보드의 중앙 데크에 타이어 재활용 고무 시트가 붙어 있어 노면과의 충격을 완화하고 소음,야구 결승전잔떨림을 줄인 것이 특징이다.또 디자인 면에서는 롱보드 상판에 타이어 트레드(지면과 맞닿는 타이어 표면) 패턴과 블록을 떠올리게 하는 그립 테이프를 붙였고 하판에는 한국타이어의 브랜드 아이덴티티를 나타내는 그래픽을 더했다.바퀴에는 생명과학업체 '체커스팟'과 공동 개발한 바이오 폴리우레탄이 적용됐다고 한국타이어는 덧붙였다.

한국타이어 관계자는 "이번 수상을 포함해 레드닷 디자인 어워드에서 2013년부터 총 25개의 상을 수상했다"며 "특히 2015년 열린 레드닷 디자인 어워드에서는 한국 기업 최초로 최고 영예인 루미너리(Luminary)를 수상하는 쾌거를 달성하기도 했다"고 말했다.
