애플은 14일(현지시간) 아이폰의 새 운영체제인 iOS 18.1 버전부터 아이폰의 결제 칩을 외부에 개방한다고 밝혔다.이에 따라 미국 등 일부 국가에서 이르면 오는 4분기부터 아이폰에서 애플페이가 아닌 다른 결제 방식을 이용할 수 있게 될 전망이다.

애플은 아이폰 등 자사 기기에서 애플페이만을 허용해왔다.결제 단말기에 갖다 대면 결제가 되는 '탭앤고'(tap-and-go) 기술이다.근거리무선통신(Near Field Communication) 결제 방식인데 애플은 지금까지 보안을 이유로 내세워 개방하지 않았다.
