[헤럴드경제=김현경 기자] 구글의 모회사 알파벳이 사이버 보안 스타트업‘위즈(Wiz)’인수를 추진한다.

블룸버그통신,프랑크푸르트 인근 카지노월스트리트저널(WSJ) 등은 14일(현지시간) 소식통을 인용,프랑크푸르트 인근 카지노알파벳이 위즈를 인수하기 위한 협상을 진행 중이라고 전했다.

인수 금액은 230억달러(약 31조6710억원)로 알파벳의 역대 인수·합병(M&A) 중 가장 큰 규모다.

뉴욕에 본사를 둔 위즈는 클라우드에 저장된 대규모 데이터에서 보안 위험을 찾아내 제거해 주는 서비스를 제공하고 있다.2020년 설립된 이후 빠르게 성장했으며 기업가치는 지난 5월 자금 조달 당시 120억달러(약 16조5240억원)로 평가됐다.

알파벳이 위즈를 인수하게 되면 경쟁이 점차 치열해지는 클라우드 컴퓨팅 시장에서 구글이 마이크로소프트(MS)와 아마존을 따라잡는 데 유리해질 것으로 보인다.

알파벳은 최근 기업용 인공지능(AI) 도구를 기반으로 시장이 한층 커지고 있는 클라우드 서비스 분야에 투자를 늘려 왔다.

구글은 지난 2022년에도 사이버 보안업체 맨디언트를 54억달러에 인수했다.

CNBC는 이번 위즈 인수가 구글에 “사이버 보안 전문가들의 통찰력을 제공할 것”이라고 평했다.

다만 알파벳의 이번 인수 협상은 대기업 독점에 대한 당국의 감시가 강화하고 있는 가운데 규제로 인해 좌절될 가능성도 있다고 미 언론은 지적했다.

구글은 앞서 온라인 검색 시장에서 지배적 지위를 남용했다는 이유로 미 법무부의 소송을 당한 바 있다.
