(서울=연합뉴스) 정수연 기자 = 피부과 등 진료를 위해 서울 강남구를 찾은 외국인 환자 수가 지난해 역대 최고치를 기록했다.

강남구는 지난해 구에서 진료받은 외국인 환자가 18만5천559명으로,전년 대비 209.8% 늘었다고 6일 밝혔다.

이는 강남구 기준 역대 최고 유치 실적이자 지난해 서울을 찾은 외국인 환자 47만3천340명의 39.2%에 달하는 수치다.

출신 국가별로 보면 일본이 7만1천425명(38.5%)으로 가장 많았고,중국 3만1천336명(16.9%),카타르 월드컵 성적미국 2만284명(12%)이 뒤를 이었다.

진료 과목은 피부과(48.2%),성형외과(22.7%),카타르 월드컵 성적내과(10.5%),건강검진(5.2%) 순이었다.

강남구에서 진료받은 외국인 환자는 2019년 13만1천808명이었으나 코로나19 여파로 2021년 2만3천734명까지 급감했다.

이후 코로나19 여파가 줄어든 데다 K뷰티가 인기를 끌면서 외국인 환자 수가 급증한 것으로 풀이된다.

구는 온오프라인 매체를 통해 강남의 의료관광 브랜드를 홍보하고,의료관광의 경쟁력을 높이기 위한 사업을 추진해왔다.

지난해부터는 외국인 의료관광객이 공항에 도착하면 택시로 병원이나 호텔까지 안내하고,진료 상담을 받을 때 전문 통역사를 붙여주는 등 서비스를 시작했다.

조성명 강남구청장은 "강남메디컬투어센터를 중심으로 국가별 특성과 외국인 환자의 수요를 고려한 마케팅 전략을 펼쳐 강남구를 전 세계가 찾는 글로벌 의료관광 도시로 만들겠다"고 말했다.
