챗GPT 개발사 오픈AI는 미국 국가안보국(NSA) 국장을 지낸 퇴역 장군 폴 M.나카소네를 이사회 멤버로 영입했다고 13일(현지시간) 밝혔다.

오픈AI는 이날 블로그에 "나카소네의 통찰력은 오픈AI가 사이버 보안 위협을 신속하게 탐지하고 대응함으로써 어떻게 AI를 이용해 사이버 보안을 강화할 수 있는지를 더 잘 이해하려는 노력에도 기여할 것"이라고 말했다.

나카소네는 1986년부터 군생활을 시작했으며,한화 키움 더블헤더2018년 5월부터 지난 2월까지 NSA 국장이자 미 사이버사령부의 책임자였다.오픈AI는 나카소네가 최근 이 회사에서 설립된 안전 및 보안 위원회에도 합류할 것이라고 설명했다.오픈AI는 지난달 28일 생성형 AI 관련 기술 개발 과정에서의 안전 및 윤리 문제를 점검하기 위해 브렛 테일러 이사회 의장과 샘 올트먼 최고경영자(CEO),애덤 단젤로 이사 등이 이끄는 새로운 '안전·보안위원회'를 구성했다고 밝힌 바 있다.

오픈AI는 앞서 지난 3월 빌 앤드 멜린다 게이츠 재단의 CEO를 지낸 수 데스몬드 헬만과 소니 엔터테인먼트의 사장을 지낸 니콜 셀리그먼,한화 키움 더블헤더농작물 배송 서비스 업체 인스타카트 CEO 피디 시모 등 3명을 신규 이사로 선임했다.

오픈AI는 대규모 언어 모델(LLM)이 기술 부문 전반에서 중요성이 커지고 AI 시장에서 경쟁이 치열해짐에 따라 이사회와 최고 경영진을 강화하고 있다.지난 10일에는 넥스트도어의 전 최고경영자(CEO)이자 스퀘어의 최고재무책임자(CFO)였던 사라 프라이어를 CFO로,한화 키움 더블헤더플래닛 랩스의 대표였던 케빈 웨일을 최고제품책임자(CPO)로 각각 영입했다고 발표했다.

프라이어는 스탠퍼드 디지털 경제 연구소의 공동 의장도 맡고 있으며,한화 키움 더블헤더웨일은 트위터의 수석 부사장과 페이스북,한화 키움 더블헤더인스타그램의 부사장도 역임했다.
