러시아는 우크라이나군이 미국산 미사일 에이태큼스(ATACMS)로 자국이 점렴 중인 크림반도를 공격하자 24일(현지시간) 주러시아 미국 대사를 초치해 강하게 항의했다.

타스 통신 등에 따르면 러시아 외교부는 이날 오전 린 트레이시 주러시아 미국 대사를 초치했다고 러시아 국방부가 밝혔다.

국방부는 "세바스토폴에서 어린이를 포함해 수많은 민간인 사상자가 발생했다"며 "미국의 지원을 받아 무장한 우크라이나 정권의 치명적인 범죄와 관련해 외무부가 미국 대사에게 항의했다"고 설명했다.

전날 러시아는 우크라이나군이 세바스토폴에 에이태큼스 5발을 발사했으며 러시아 대공방어망이 이 가운데 4기를 격추했으나 나머지 1기는 공중에서 집속탄 탄두가 폭발했다고 발표했다.

미하일 라즈보자예프 세바스토폴 시장은 이번 공격으로 어린이 2명을 포함해 총 4명이 숨지고 153명이 다쳤다고 밝혔다.

에이태큼스는 사거리가 300㎞ 달하는 장거리 무기다.우크라이나는 러시아와 전쟁을 시작한 이후 미국에 계속 이 무기 제공을 요청해 받아냈다.

미국이 제공한 무기는 투하된 어미폭탄이 새끼폭탄 수백발을 지상에 흩뿌려 광범위한 공격을 가하는 집속탄 형태인 것으로 알려졌다.집속탄은 비인도적 살상무기로 평가된다.

러시아는 우크라이나가 미국산 무기를 이용해 자국을 공격하는 것에 민감하게 반응하고 있다.

드미트리 페스코프 크렘린궁 대변인은 취재진에 "미국이 싸움에 개입해 평화롭던 러시아인들이 죽게 된다면 후과가 따르게 될 수밖에 없다"며 "이는 시간이 말해 줄 것"이라고 경고했다.

앞서 푸틴 대통령은 지난 5일 상트페테르부르크에서 열린 세계 주요 뉴스통신사 대표 기자회견에서 우크라이나가 러시아 영토를 더 깊이 타격할 경우 재래식 미사일을 미국과 그 유럽 동맹의 타격권 내에 배치할 수 있다고 밝힌 바 있다.
