중국 바이두의 로보택시(자율주행택시)가 인기를 끌면서 기존 택시 기사들이 불만을 제기하고 있다고 홍콩 사우스차이나모닝포스트(SCMP)가 10일 보도했습니다.

보도에 따르면 바이두가 2022년 8월 인구 1천370만명의 중국 후베이성 우한시에서 서비스를 개시한 로보택시 서비스 '아폴로 고'가 인기를 끌자 현지 택시 기사들이 여러 운송 당국에 해당 서비스 사용 제한을 청원하고 있습니다.

지난달 말 택시업체 우한의 한 택시업체는 당국에 서한을 보내 "로보택시가 풀뿌리(계층의) 직업을 앗아가고 있다"고 비난했습니다.

SCMP는 우한에서 바이두의 로보택시가 500대 이상 운행하며 빠르게 인기를 얻고 있다고 전했습니다.

바이두는 최근 아폴로 고가 우한에서 1천대까지 확대될 것이며 현지에서 연말까지는 손익분기점에 이를 것으로 기대한다고 밝혔습니다.

우한은 약 2년 전 충칭과 함께 감독자 없는 로보택시 테스트가 처음 승인된 곳으로,월드컵 특별법이후 이 테스트는 베이징과 선전 그리고 광저우 등으로 확대됐습니다.

이런 가운데 상하이시도 운전자 없는 로보택시 시범 운행을 허가했다고 미국 월스트리트저널(WSJ)이 현지시간 지난 8일 전했습니다.

바이두는 2030년 말까지 중국 100개 도시에서 아폴로 고 서비스를 이용할 수 있게 하겠다고 밝힌 바 있습니다.
