(서울=연합뉴스) 우크라이나군이 러시아 본토 기습 일주일째인 12일(현지시간) 접경지역인 쿠르스크주 1천㎢를 장악했다고 주장했습니다.

로이터통신에 따르면 올렉산드르 시르스키 우크라이나군 총사령관은 이날 볼로디미르 젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령 주재 참모회의에서 "쿠르스크 지역에서 공격 작전을 계속하고 있다.현재 러시아 연방 영토 약 1천㎢를 통제하고 있다"고 말했습니다.

1천㎢는 서울시 면적(605㎢)의 1.65배에 해당합니다.

이 기세를 몰아 젤렌스키 대통령은 장거리 미사일로 러시아 본토 깊숙이 공격할 수 있도록 해달라고 서방에 또 한번 호소했습니다.

허를 찔린 블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령은 또 직접 회의를 주재했습니다.

푸틴 대통령은 이날 참모 상황 회의를 열고 "적을 영토에서 몰아내고 제압하며 안정적인 국경 안보를 보장하는 것이 주 임무"라고 지시했습니다.

또 우크라이나가 차후 평화 협상에서 우위를 점하고 러시아군의 자국 영토 공격을 중단시키는 한편 러시아 사회를 불안정하게 만들기 위해 본토 공격에 나선 것이라고 주장했습니다.

그는 우크라이나의 '도발'로 많은 희생자가 나왔다면서 "적은 분명 합당한 대응을 받을 것이고 우리가 직면한 모든 목표는 의심의 여지 없이 달성될 것"이라고 밝혔습니다.

이날 회의에서 우크라이나군이 본토를 일부 장악한 사실도 보고됐습니다.

쿠르스크 주지사 대행은 우크라이나군이 40㎞ 전선에 걸쳐 영토 안 12㎞까지 진입했으며 총 2천여명이 사는 28개 마을을 통제하는 등 상황이 어렵다고 말했습니다.

러시아 국방부는 우크라이나군 격퇴를 위해 추가 병력과 군사 장비가 투입되고 있다고 밝혔습니다.영상으로 보시죠.
