성전환 수술을 받았다는 이유로,고잔동 로또군에서 강제 전역 처분을 받은 뒤 숨진,고 변희수 하사가 숨진 지 3년 3개월 만에 국립대전현충원에 안장됐습니다.

유족과 추모객은 변 하사의 현충원 안장을 계기로 성소수자의 군 복무를 보장해야 한다고 주장했습니다.

고 변희수 하사의 영정이 국립대전현충원 충혼당에 놓였습니다.

검은 옷을 입은 추모객들은 하얀 국화를 헌화하고 묵념합니다.

변 하사는 숨진 지 3년 3개월 만에 현충원에 안장됐습니다.

"하사님 용기를 보면서 아무리 힘들어도 하사님 생각하면서 열심히 살아야겠다는 마음으로…"

변 하사는 지난 2017년 육군에 임관한 뒤 2019년 군단장의 허가를 받고 성전환 수술을 받았음에도,고잔동 로또이듬해인 2020년 강제 전역됐습니다.

그리고 1년 2개월 뒤 자택에서 숨진 채 발견돼 고향인 충북 청주의 추모공원에 안치됐습니다.

그러나 지난 2021년 법원은 변 하사에 대한 강제 전역 처분이 위법하다고 판결했고,고잔동 로또지난 3월엔 국방부도 변 하사의 순직을 인정했습니다.

고 변 하사의 유족과 추모객은 순직 인정으로만 끝날 것이 아니라 성소수자도 국방의 의무를 다할 수 있도록 관련 제도 개선이 필요하다고 지적했습니다.

"고인의 순직 결정과 현충원 안장을 인권의 전진으로 봐야 하고요.우리 사회에 평등한 군대가 무엇인지에 대한 숙제를 남겼다고 생각하고 있습니다."

앞서 계룡대 육군본부 앞에서 진행된 고 변 하사의 노제에서 추모객들은,고잔동 로또육군이 변 하사를 강제 전역시키고 목숨까지 잃게 했다며 육군의 반성을 촉구했습니다.

"규탄한다!규탄한다!규탄한다!"

한편 일부 시민단체들은 현충원 앞에서 "변 하사의 순직은 개인적인 일"이라며 현충원 안장에 반대하는 집회를 열었습니다.
