첫 번째 미국 대선 TV토론 뒤,볼티모어 레이븐스민주당 의원 사이에서도 처음으로 바이든 대통령의 재선 포기를 촉구하는 목소리가 나왔습니다.여기에 바이든 보다 해리스 부통령이 더 경쟁력 있다는 여론조사 결과도 나왔습니다.

로이드 도겟 미국 하원의원이 성명을 내고 바이든 대통령의 재선 포기를 촉구했습니다.

지난 대선 TV토론 이후 당 안팎에서 후보 교체 목소리가 커졌지만,볼티모어 레이븐스민주당 소속 현역 연방의원이 공개적으로 사퇴를 요구하고 나선 것은 처음입니다.

도겟 의원은 토론에서 바이든 대통령이 유권자들을 안심시키지 못했고 트럼프의 거짓말을 들춰내는 데 실패했다고 했습니다.

그러면서 과거 린든 존슨 대통령이 그랬던 것처럼 고통스럽더라도 바이든 역시 재선 포기 결정을 내려야 한다고 주장했습니다.

1964년 대선에서 압승했던 존슨 대통령은 68년 재선에 나섰지만,볼티모어 레이븐스반전 운동이 거세지고 지지도가 떨어지면서 불출마를 선언했습니다.

잇따르는 사퇴 목소리에 백악관도 방어에 나섰습니다.

하지만 이날도 민주당 지지자들은 바이든 보다 다른 후보를 원한다는 여론조사 결과가 나왔습니다.

CNN이 토론 직후 실시해 발표한 조사에서 바이든의 지지율은 트럼프에 6%p 뒤지는 것으로 나타났습니다.

반면 해리스 부통령과 트럼프의 가상대결에선 45%대 47%로 오차범위 내 박빙이었습니다.

민주당 지지자들 사이에선 다른 후보를 내세워야 이길 가능성 높다는 응답이 56%나 됐습니다.
