[헤럴드경제=구본혁 기자] 한국건설기술연구원(KICT)은 16일부터 20일까지 캐나다 앨버타주 밴프에서 개최되는‘2024 캐나다-한국 과학기술회의(CKC 2024)’에 참가해 캐나다 과학계와 본격적인 교류 행보에 나섰다.

올해 14회째를 맞는 CKC 2024에서는 청정에너지,프로야구 삼성 경기일정인공지능,양자기술 등 다양한 주제에 대한 테크니컬스페셜 세션과 포럼이 진행됐다.특히 지속가능한 국제 R&D 협력 정상회의(Sustainable International R&D Collaboration Summit)에서는 건설연 김병석 원장이 통섭형 융합연구를 이끄는 KICT 클러스터 제도의 성공에 대해 발표했다.재난재해 대응과 같은 인류 문제 해결과 지속 가능한 발전을 촉진하기 위한 KICT의 국제적인 협력에 대해 강조했다.

특히 올해 콘퍼런스 주제인‘과학기술 중심 국제협력 가속화’는 한국과 캐나다 간의 국제 R&D 협력의 중요성을 뒷받침하고 있다.

건설연은 CKC 2024에서‘기후변화와 미래사회를 위한 AI 기반 혁신 솔루션’을 주제로 한국-캐나다 과학기술자들의 다양한 학술교류를 위한 포럼을 개최했다.

이번 포럼에서는 ▷AI 관련 도로관리 기술(캐나다 앨버타대학교 권태중 교수) ▷미래 온실가스 배출(건설연 손민수 박사) ▷AI 기반 자율차 시대 미래 도로 전망(건설연 윤덕근 박사) ▷기후위기 극복을 위한 AI 적용한 홍수·가뭄 대응 기술(건설연 노희성 박사)에 대한 주제 발표가 진행됐다.

건설연은 CKC 2024에서 기관 홍보 부스 운영을 통해 학회 참석 과학기술자 및 연구기관을 대상으로 건설연의 주요 업무 및 R&D 성과,프로야구 삼성 경기일정국제공동연구 계획 등을 소개하고 캐나다 과학기술 우수인력 유치 및 우수 연구기관과의 공동연구 추진을 위한 소통 공간을 마련했다.

김병석 한국건설기술연구원장은 “기후 위기 대응과 건설분야에 특화된 AI 기술을 연구 개발하고 적용함으로써,AI 기반 건설기술 혁신을 이루어야 할 시점”이라며 “캐나다 우수 연구기관과의 교류·협력을 활발하게 추진하고,향후 건설연과 캐나다과학자협회와의 공동연구가 더욱 확대될 것으로 기대한다”고 밝혔다.
