(샌프란시스코=연합뉴스) 김태종 특파원 = 기아는 미국에서 판매하고 있는 스포츠유틸리티차량(SUV) 텔루라이드를 리콜한다고 7일(현지시간) 밝혔다.

리콜 대상 차량은 2020년부터 올해까지 판매된 총 46만3천대다.

기아는 이번 리콜에 대해 차량 앞좌석 파워 시트(자동식 좌석) 모터가 과열로 인해 화재 위험의 우려가 제기된 데 따른 것이라고 설명했다.

기아는 좌석 밑에서 불이 났다는 사고 1건과 좌석 모터가 녹았다는 6건의 민원이 제기됐다며 이로 인한 충돌이나 부상 등은 없다고 밝혔다.

미국 도로교통안전국(NHTSA)은 "(좌석을 앞뒤로 조절할 수 있는) 파워 시트 슬라이드 손잡이(노브)가 움직이지 않으면 좌석 전동 모터가 과열돼 주차나 주행 중에 화재가 발생할 수 있다"고 설명했다.

이어 "리콜 수리가 완료될 때까지 차량 소유자는 구조물에서 멀리 떨어진 곳에 주차하는 것이 좋다"고 덧붙였다.

기아 측은 문제 해결을 위해 좌석 전동 조절 스위치의 후면 커버를 고정하는 부품(파워 시트 스위치 백 커버용 브래킷)을 설치하고 좌석 슬라이드 손잡이를 교체할 예정이다.

또 내달 30일부터 차량 소유자들에게 리콜 사실을 알릴 계획이다.
