4일 제주동초등학교에 따르면 1952년 이 학교를 졸업한 민문자(84)씨가 지난 1일 학교를 찾아 재학 당시 담임교사였던 하순도 선생님 이름으로 미화 5천달러의 장학금을 기탁했다.

민씨는 한국전쟁 때인 1950년 제주로 피난 와 동초등학교 5∼6학년 피난민 반에서 공부했는데,복권토큰판매소당시 담임이었던 하순도 선생님이 기억에 많이 남았다고 한다.

1952년 동초교를 졸업한 민씨는 이후 서울로 가서 이화여대 무용과를 졸업한 뒤 숙명여중 교사로 재직하다가 미국으로 건너가 무용교육학 석박사 학위를 취득한 뒤 42년간 무용과 교수로 재직했다.

현재 미국에 거주 중인 민씨는 한국에 올 일이 생기자 학교로 연락해 방문하고 싶다는 뜻을 전했다.

민씨는 학교 관계자들에게 "졸업한 지 72년이 지났지만 아직도 선생님에 대한 감사한 마음을 갖고 있다"며 선생님의 이름으로 후배들을 위한 장학금을 내놓고 싶었다고 말했다.

학교 관계자는 "기탁자 마음을 학생들에게 잘 전달하고,복권토큰판매소아이들을 훌륭한 인재로 키우는 데 최선을 다하겠다"며 감사의 마음을 전했다.

그러면서 "기탁자분이 선생님을 다시 뵙고 싶어 하셨는데,복권토큰판매소아마 살아계신다면 100세가 넘으셨을 것"이라며 "하 선생님의 가족이나 지인이 있으면 학교(☎064-754-0509)로 연락 바란다"고 덧붙였다.
