김홍일 방송통신위원장이 임명 6개월여 만에 자진 사퇴했습니다.

전임인 이동관 전 위원장과 마찬가지로,89 프로야구 우승국회 본회의에 탄핵소추안이 보고되기 직전 스스로 물러난 것으로 보입니다.

이용주 기자의 보도입니다.

김홍일 방송통신위원장이 취임 6개월여 만에 사퇴했습니다.

김 위원장은 오늘 오전 국무회의에 가지 않은 채 사의를 표명했고 윤석열 대통령은 면직안을 즉각 재가했습니다.

당초 국회는 오늘 오후 김 위원장에 대한탄핵소추안을 본회의에 보고할 예정이었습니다.

탄핵안이 통과되면 헌재 결정이 나올 때까지 최장 6개월간 위원장 직무가 중단되기 때문에 방통위가 사실상 기능 정지 사태에 빠집니다.

따라서 김 위원장의 사퇴는 전임 이동관 전위원장처럼 국회에 탄핵안 의결을 피하려는 것으로 보입니다.

김 위원장은 퇴임사를 통해 야당의 탄핵 시도에 법적 정당성이 없다고 비판했습니다.

"(야당의 탄핵소추 시도는) 오히려 저에 대한 직무정지를 통하여 방통위 운영을 마비시키고자하는 정치적인 목적이라고 생각합니다."

지난주 방통위 전체회의에서 김 위원장은 다음 달 중순 임기가 끝나는 MBC 대주주 방송문화진흥회 등 공영방송 3사 이사진의 교체 계획안을 의결했습니다.

새 이사진의 최종 임명안을 의결하려면 방통위는 다시 전체회의를 열어야 합니다.

그러나 김 위원장의 사퇴로 방통위에는 현재 이상인 부위원장 한 명만 남게 돼 공영방송 3사의 이사진 교체를 기한 내마치려면 후임 방통위원장 인선도 서둘러 추진될 것으로 보입니다.

윤 대통령이 조만간 지명할 예정인 후임 방통위원장에는 이진숙 전 대전MBC 사장 등이 거명되고 있습니다.
