유럽연합(EU)이 중국산 저가 상품에 대한 관세 부과를 추진한다고 영국 일간 파이낸셜타임스가 현지시간 3일 보도했습니다.

보도에 따르면 EU 집행위원회는 150유로(약 22만원) 미만의 물품을 무관세로 살 수 있는 현행 기준을 폐지하는 방안을 이달 제안할 계획입니다.

적용 대상은 역외 지역에서 EU 소비자에게 직접 물품을 운송하는 온라인 소매업체들입니다.

한 당국자는 이 같은 조치의 표적이 이른바 '알테쉬'로 불리는 중국의 대표적 저가상품 플랫폼 알리,야구 v11테무,야구 v11쉬인이라고 밝혔습니다.

관세 징수의 폭을 넓히는 이번 계획은 이들 플랫폼이 큰 인기를 끌면서 역내 무관세 수입이 급증한 데 따른 대책입니다.

EU 집행위에 따르면 지난해 EU 회원국에 무관세로 수입된 150유로 미만 물품은 23억개에 달합니다.

이는 각 가정에 2개씩 돌아가는 규모이자 전년 대비 2배 이상으로 늘어난 물량입니다.

이번 관세 부과안은 일부 EU 회원국들이 급증하는 통관 업무를 들어 불만을 제기할 수 있는 까닭에 집행까지 가는 데 진통도 예상됩니다.
