한국수자원공사가 운영하는 정수장에서 홀로 작업하던 40대 직원이 숨지는 사고가 발생했다.

4일 경찰과 소방당국,한국수자원공사 등에 따르면 전날 오후 7시 15분쯤 충남 공주시 월송동 소재 수자원공사 공주수도운영센터에서 직원 A 씨가 기계 장치 구조물에 떨어진 것을 동료 직원이 발견해 119에 신고했다.

현장에 출동한 119구급대원과 의료진은 A 씨가 이미 사후강직 상태에 접어든 것을 확인하고 '심정지 유보' 판단을 내린 뒤 A 씨 시신을 경찰에 인계했다.

사고가 발생한 곳은 정수장 내 부산물이 빠져나가는 곳으로,에델바이스 노래당시 A 씨는 홀로 부산물 처리 설비를 청소중이었던 것으로 알려졌다.

그러다 A 씨는 알 수 없는 이유로 너비 24㎝,에델바이스 노래깊이 2m 정도 되는 좁은 틈을 통해 기계 장치 구조물이 있는 곳으로 떨어진 것으로 전해졌다.

현재 경찰은 CC(폐쇄회로)TV를 통해 A 씨가 떨어지게 된 시점 등을 확인 중이며,에델바이스 노래수자원공사의 내부 근무 수칙과 업무상 과실 혐의 등을 살펴보고 있다.

노동청도 근로감독관을 파견해 현장 조사를 실시 중이다.안전상 조치 여부,에델바이스 노래근로자 사망 원인 등을 파악해 중대재해처벌법 적용에 해당하는지 판단할 방침이다.

이에 대해 수자원공사 측은 일각에서 A 씨가 기계설비에 끼어 숨졌다는 주장이 나오는 데 대해 "부산물 처리 설비는 정기점검을 위해 지난달 5일부터 운휴상태였다.작동중이 아니었기 때문에 A 씨가 끼어서 숨졌다고 단정하기 어려울 것으로 보인다"고 설명했다.

또 A 씨 홀로 작업한 이유에 대해서는 "위험작업은 2인 1조로 이뤄지지만,에델바이스 노래부산물 처리 설비 청소는 위험작업에 해당되지 않아 혼자 근무한 것으로 파악하고 있다"고 밝혔다.
