이 의원은 이날 제주 서귀포시 제주국제컨벤션센터에서 열린 '2024 그린수소 글로벌 포럼' 축사에서 "탄소중립 정책의 실현을 위해 그린수소는 필수적인 핵심 에너지"라며 이같이 밝혔다.

이 의원은 "윤석열 대통령도 CF(Carbon Free) 연합을 제안했고 세계 각국은 탄소중립 목표 선언에 이어 실현을 위해 수소를 주목하고 있다"며 "그린수소는 지구 온난화의 주범인 화석연료를 대체할 수 있는 미래 청정 에너지"라고 말했다.

그러면서 "우리나라는 2050년 탄소중립을 선언한 동시에 이를 위해 다각적으로 노력하고 있다"며 "국회는 세계 최초로 수소법을 제정했고 탄소중립기본법도 제정해 시행하고 있다"고 설명했다.

이어 "제주도가 그린수소 상용화를 통해 탄소중립을 정부보다 15년 앞당기겠다는 결단은 지방 정부의 모범사례가 될 것"이라면서 "국회 수소경제포럼 소속 의원들과 함께 제주도의 그린수소 정책을 적극 지원하겠다"고 거듭 강조했다.

이날 포럼에서 오영훈 제주도지사는 "2035년 제주에서 사용하는 모든 전력을 재생에너지와 그린수소 발전으로 생산하겠다"고 밝혔다.그린수소는 풍력과 태양광 등 재생에너지에서 발생한 전력으로 물을 전기 분해해 만든 수소로,월드컵 병역면제생산 과정에서 이산화탄소 배출이 없어 세계 각국을 중심으로 기술은 물론 물량 확보 경쟁이 치열하다.
