홍남표 창원특례시장이 13일 대한민국특례시시장협의회 정기회의에 참석해 수원·고양·용인특례시,화성시와 특례시 권한 확보 방안을 논의했다.화성시는 인구가 100만명을 넘어 내년 특례시 출범을 앞두고 있다.

창원특례시 등은 특례시 지원에 관한 특별법에 실질적인 특례를 담기 위해서는 특례시의 의견을 반영해야 한다고 한목소리를 냈다.정부가 법안 마련을 서두르는 만큼 행정안전부,지방시대위원회,독점 슬롯 무료 동전국회와 적극적으로 협의한다는 계획이다.

이날 회의에서는 협의회 4기를 이끌 대표회장으로 수원,감사도시로 창원을 선출했다.화성시는 준회원으로 정식 가입했고 앞으로 특례시 권한 확보에 새로운 방향과 전략을 제시할 것으로 기대한다.

홍 시장은 "특례시 특별법 제정 추진으로 특례시의 실질적인 권한 확보에 가속도가 붙을 것"이라며 "특별법에 기획 권한의 이양과 도시 규모를 고려한 재정지원이 반영돼 실질적인 권한을 받는 것이 중요하다"고 말했다.

한편 창원특례시는 특례시 지위 유지를 위해 관련 법령이 연내 개정될 수 있도록 중앙부처에 지속적인 제도개선을 건의하고 있다.
