SMR 사업화 부지 [사진 대구시]대구 군위군에 건설중인 TK신공항 첨단산업단지에 국내 최초로 소형모듈원자로(SMR)가 건설된다.

대구시는 17일 오전 산격청사에서 한국수력원자력과 '680MW SMR 사업화를 위한 업무협약'를 체결했다.이번에 체결된 업무협약에는 '부지 적합성,경제성 등 타당성 조사','SMR 상용화 노력 및 SSNC 활용 탄소중립도시 조성 협력','주민 수용성 제고','CF100 정책 활성화 등을 위한 공동 노력' 등의 협력 사항을 담고 있다.

SMR은 기존 대형 원자로에 비해 안전성이 높고,98프랑스 월드컵전력사정에 따른 유연한 출력 구현이 가능하며,수소 생산과 지역 난방 등 다양한 용도로 활용할 수 있어 각광받고 있다.다만,미국 '뉴스케일파워'이 유타주에서 추진했던 소형모듈원전사업(SFPP)이 지난해 높은 전력 단가로 좌초됐다는 점을 보더라도 경제성 확보는 과제이다.

대구시는 한수원 및 민간건설사와 함께 2026년까지 '사전 타당성 조사'를 실시하고,2028년 정부의 관련 절차에 맞춰 표준설계 인가을 받은 후 착공해 2033년부터 상업 발전을 시작할 계획이다.이를 위해 SMR 건설을 위한 SPC(특수목적법인)이 군위첨단산업단지 내 에너지생산단지(50만㎡) 중 약 16만㎡ 부지를 매입해 공사를 진행하며,98프랑스 월드컵총사업비는 4조 원으로 전액 SPC가 조달하게 된다.

홍준표 시장은 "미래 반도체 캠퍼스는 국가 안보나 산업 인프라 측면에서 분산 배치가 반드시 필요하며,98프랑스 월드컵공항과 SMR을 가진 군위 첨단산단이 후방의 최적지가 될 수 있다"며,"군위 SMR 건설을 위해 정부는 물론 민간기업과 긴밀히 협력하고 지역민과의 소통과 이익증진에도 힘쓰겠다"고 강조했다.
