SK㈜는 EDC와 이같은 내용의‘양사 간 중장기적 협력관계 구축을 위한 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 4일 밝혔다.EDC는 1994년 캐나다 연방정부가 100% 출자해 설립한 공적수출신용기관(ECA)이다.수출보험과 보증,투자 등을 통해 캐나다 자국의 수출을 지원하고 친환경·디지털 등 정책 사업에 대한 금융 지원도 맡고 있다.

SK는 이번 협력을 계기로 넷제로(탄소중립 0) 달성을 위한 안정적인 투자 환경이 조성될 것으로 기대하고 있다.회사가 보유한 반도체·배터리 분야 제조 역량을 기반으로 리튬과 코발트,로또 추첨 조작흑연,니켈 등 핵심광물 부국인 캐나다와 협력해 첨단산업 분야에서 시너지 창출도 가능할 것이라는 전망이다.

SK와 EDC가 탄소중립 실현이라는 공동 목표 아래 친환경 산업 발전을 위해 힘을 모았다는 데 의미가 있다는 게 회사 측 설명이다.SK는 글로벌 탄소중립 목표 시점인 2050년보다 앞서 넷제로(탄소배출 0)를 조기 달성하기 위해 노력 중이다.캐나다 정부는 2050년 신재생 에너지 발전 비중 100% 실현을 목표로 하고 있다.
