어젯밤 9시 반쯤 서울 마포구 성산대교 인근에서 촬영된 하늘 영상입니다.

구름이 잔뜩 낀 하늘에 어렴풋하게 붉은색 빛이 보입니다.

잠시 뒤,aubl빛은 점점 색깔이 바뀌더니 초록색에서 파란색,aubl보라색으로도 변하는 모습입니다.

[목격자]
"내 눈이 이상한가 하고 몇 번을 깜빡해서… 또 바뀌어 또 바뀌어.이거 오로라야!완전 빨개졌어!<어머 너무 신기하다 계속 바뀌는데?> 대박이야!"

이 현상은 인근 성산동 아파트 단지 앞에서도,aubl한강 건너편인 양천구 목동에서도 목격됐습니다.

한밤중 처음 보는 신기한 광경에 시민들의 제보도 잇따랐습니다.

정말 목격자의 추측대로 오로라가 맞을까.

오로라는 고위도 지역에서 관측된다고 알려져 있지만,aubl지난 5월 강력한 태양폭풍이 지구를 강타하면서 중국 최북단 지역인 신장 아러타이 지구에서도 오로라가 관측된 바 있습니다.

기상청에 해당 영상을 보내주고 분석을 요청했습니다.

기상청은 "한국 같은 중위도 지역에서 오로라가 관측되는 건 사실상 불가능에 가깝고,어젯밤의 경우는 구름까지 낀 상태라 오로라가 관측됐다고 판단하기 어렵다"고 밝혔습니다.

"태양에서 오는 전자기파가 성층권 등에서 찬 공기와 부딪히며 발생하는 대기 광전 현상인 오로라는 성층권 위쪽을 지상에서 관측하는 건데,이렇게 구름으로 뒤덮인 하늘에선 보일 리가 없다"는 겁니다.

그러면서 "영상을 보니,지상에서의 행사장 등 불빛이 구름에 반사된 것으로 추정된다"며 "비슷한 사례로 동해나 제주도에서 저녁에 오징어잡이 배 등의 불빛이 구름에 반사돼 보이는 현상이 빈번하게 일어난다"고 말했습니다.

실제로 접수된 제보 영상 중 하나에서는 서울 월드컵대교에 밝혀진 조명이 변할 때마다 똑같은 색으로 구름 빛깔이 바뀌는 모습이 확인됩니다.

기상청은 이 영상에서 확인할 수 있듯 해당 현상은 오로라가 아니라 구름 아래 월드컵대교 조명이 반사되면서 목격된 해프닝으로 보는 게 맞을 것이라고 설명했습니다.
