우주항공청과 한국항공우주연구원은 11일 누리호 4차 발사에 탑재될 큐브위성 6기를 선정했다고 밝혔다.6기는 산업체와 연구기관을 대상으로 공모를 받아 평가를 거쳤다.

큐브위성은 수십 ㎏에서 작게는 수 ㎏ 크기의 위성이다‘유닛’(Unit·단위)의 앞글자인‘U’를 크기 단위로 쓴다.가로·세로·높이 각 10㎝인 정육면체를 1U라고 한다.정부는 국내 산업체와 연구기관의 위성기술 역량을 강화하기 위해 누리호 발사 때 큐브위성 발사 기회를 제공하고 있다.지난해 5월 누리호 3차 발사에서도 한국천문연구원의 도요샛,분데스리가 중계루미르의‘루미르-티1(LUMIR-T1) 등의 큐브위성을 발사했다.

이번에 선정된 큐브위성는 6U 큐브위성 3기와 3U 큐브위성 3기 총 6기다.우주에서 우주제약 시험을 목표로 하는 스페이스린텍의‘비-1000(BEE-1000),분데스리가 중계공공활용용 다분광 영상촬영을 목적으로 하는 한컴인스페이스의‘세종4호,분데스리가 중계6세대(6G) 통신기술 검증을 위한 한국전자통신연구원의‘에트리샛(ETRISat)’이 6U 큐브위성이다.위성폐기장치 시험과 우주탐사용 부품 검증을 목적으로 하는 우주로테크의‘코스믹(COSMIC)’과 지구관측영상획득을 목적으로 하는 코스모웍스의‘잭(JACK) 3호’와 4호‘가 3U 큐브위성이다.

누리호 4차 발사에서는 선정된 6기의 큐브위성 외에도’2022년도 큐브위성 경연대회‘를 통해 선정돼 국내 대학에서 개발하고 있는 큐브위성과 국산 소자·부품을 검증하기 위한 항우연에서 개발하고 있는 국산 소자·부품 검증위성도 부탑재위성으로 함께 발사한다.

현성윤 우주항공청 우주수송임무설계프로그램장은 “누리호의 활용성 제고와 개발된 위성의 기술 검증과 헤리티지 확보를 위해 지속적으로 큐브위성을 포함한 위성의 탑재 기회를 확대하고자 한다”며 “국내 산업체와 연구기관들이 우주에 좀 더 쉽게 접근하게 함으로써 우주경제의 성장을 견인하고자 한다”고 밝혔다.
