(서울=연합뉴스) 최윤선 기자 = 제11대 서울시의회 후반기를 이끌어갈 의장에 국민의힘 최호정 대표의원(원내대표)이 선출됐다.초대 시의회가 개원한 1956년 이후로 68년 만에 첫 여성 의장이 탄생했다.

서울시의회는 25일 제324회 정례회 제4차 본회의에서 의장 선거를 열어 전체 의원 111명 중 105명이 투표해 96표를 얻은 최 대표의원을 의장으로 선출했다.

시의회는 국민의힘 75석,복권기금 위원회더불어민주당 36석으로 다수당 소속의 최다선 의원이 의장을 맡는 게 관례다.

1967년생인 최 대표의원은 2010년 제8대 서울시의회 의원에 당선되면서 정치 활동을 시작해 9대를 거쳐 현재 11대에서 활동 중인 3선 시의원이다.

이명박 전 대통령의 정치적 멘토이자 MB 정부 시절 최측근 실세로 활동한 최시중 전 방송통신위원장의 딸이다.1991년 이화여대 식품영양학과를 졸업하고 같은 대학에서 석사,복권기금 위원회서울시립대에서 행정학 박사 과정을 수료했다.

최 신임 의장은 선거 직후 "미래세대에게 더 밝은 서울시를 만들어주기 위해 최선을 다하겠다.지방자치를 한걸음 더 진전시키겠다"며 "시민들이 어려울 때 제일 먼저 기댈 곳이 시의회가 될 수 있도록 시민 곁에 있겠다"고 당선 소감을 밝혔다.

아울러 전날 경기 화성시의 리튬 1차전지 배터리 제조공장에서 발생한 화재 희생자들에게 애도를 표했다.

전반기 시의회를 이끈 전임 김현기 의장에 이은 최 신임 의장의 임기는 내달 1일부터 시작된다.
