기후 변화로 인한 개발도상국 피해 지원 목적

(세종=연합뉴스) 민경락 기자 = 정부가 개발도상국의 기후 변화 피해를 지원하는 기금에 700만 달러를 신규로 출연하기로 했다.

최지영 기획재정부 국제경제관리관은 2일 오전 인천 송도에서 열린 '손실과 피해 기금' 이사회 환영사에서 한국의 700만 달러 신규 출연 계획을 공개했다고 기재부가 밝혔다.

손실과 피해 기금은 기후 변화로 인한 개발도상국의 경제적·비경제적 피해를 지원하는 유엔기후변화협약(UNFCCC) 산하 기금이다.지난해 말 공식 출범했으며 현재까지 19개국이 총 7억9천200만 달러의 출연 계획을 밝혔다.

최 관리관은 "한국의 기여가 더 많은 자발적 공여를 독려하는 촉매 역할을 할 수 있기를 기대한다"고 말했다.

손실과 피해 기금 이사회는 12일까지 열리며 44개국을 대표하는 이사진과 국제기구·비정부기구 관계자가 참석한다.

최 관리관은 이날 녹색기후기금 사무국에서 녹색기후기금 재원 보충 공여 협정에도 서명했다.

한국은 지난해 9월 주요 20개국(G20) 정상회의에서 2차 재원 보충 기간(2024∼2027년) 3억 달러를 공여할 계획이라고 밝힌 바 있다.

기재부는 공약 이행을 위해 올해 3분기 3천500만 달러를 우선 집행한다.

녹색기후기금은 개도국의 기후변화 대응을 지원하기 위해 UNFCCC 산하에 설립된 기후변화 관련 최대 규모의 기금이다.
