9일 경총는 입장문을 통해 "이번 파업은 법 개정과 정권 퇴진 등 정치적 요구를 목적으로 내세운 불법 정치 파업"이라며 "금속노조는 지난 6월 투쟁결의대회에 이어 이번 불법 총파업을 통해 노조법 2·3조(노란봉투법) 개정을 압박하고 있다"고 주장했다.

이어 "노조법 개정은 가뜩이나 노조 쪽으로 쏠려있는 노사관계 힘의 균형을 무너트려 혼란에 빠트릴 우려가 매우 크다"며 "금속노조는 지금이라도 정당성 없는 불법파업을 즉각 철회하기를 촉구한다"고 덧붙였다.그러면서 "정부는 금속노조의 불법파업과 불법행위에 대해 엄정하게 대응해 산업현장의 법치주의를 바로 세워 주기를 바란다"고 강조했다.
