콜롬비아 통계청에 따르면 지난해 첫 8개월 동안 이스라엘에 대한 콜롬비아의 석탄 수출은 3억2000만 달러(약 4420억원) 이상이었다.이는 2023년 90억 달러(12조4290억원)를 넘은 전체 석탄 수출에 비하면 극히 일부분이지만,미국교통저널에 따르면 이스라엘은 석탄 수입의 50% 이상을 콜롬비아에 의존하고 있으며,클린스만 아시안컵 우승이 중 상당 부분이 발전소에 공급되고 있다.

콜롬비아 최초의 좌파 대통령으로 2022년 취임한 페트로는 지난 5월 베냐민 네타냐후 이스라엘 총리의 '대량학살' 정부와 관계를 유지할 수 없다며 이스라엘과 외교 관계를 끊었다.
