농협중앙회는 9일(현지시간) 이탈리아 로마에서 개최된 국제협동조합농업기구(이하 ICAO) 집행위원회에서 강호동 농협중앙회장이 ICAO 신임 회장으로 취임했다고 밝혔다.

전 세계 34개국 41개 농업협동조합을 회원으로 두고 있는 ICAO는 이날 강호동 회장과 함께 일본 JA전중의 후쿠조노 아키히로 상무이사를 아시아 지역 부회장으로 선임하며 집행위원회의 빈자리를 채웠다.

1951년 창설된 ICAO는 10억명의 협동조합인들을 대표하는 전세계 최대 비정부기구인 국제협동조합연맹(ICA) 산하의 농업분과기구로서 농업협동조합 간 협력을 통한 농업인 권익 제고를 위해 운영되고 있다.

강호동 회장은 취임사를 통해 “창립 이후 70여년 동안 축적된 ICAO의 역사가 오늘날 회원기관 간 상호 신뢰와 협력의 밑바탕이 됐다”면서,89년 야구 우승“이를 기반으로 세계 농업과 협동조합 현안에 대한 해결의 실마리를 찾아나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

강호동 회장은 이어서 ▲ 2025년 「유엔(UN) 협동조합의 해」 기념 국제세미나 및 농업박람회 개최 ▲ 한국 농협 노하우 전수를 위한 ICAO 회원기관 대표의 한국농협 연수 ▲ 회원기관 맞춤형 정보 제공을 위한 인공지능에 기반한 ICAO 디지털 플랫폼 구축 ▲ 회원기관의 경제적 실익 제고를 위한 농식품 바터무역(barter trade) 추진 등을 신규 사업으로 발표하며 참석자들의 큰 호응을 얻었다.
