강민수 국세청장 후보자가 과거 자신의 석사 학위 논문에 5·18 민주화운동을 '광주 사태'로 전두환 신군부의 군사 쿠데타를 '12·12 거사'로 표현한 것에 대해 "진심으로 사과드린다"며 16일 고개를 숙였다.

강 후보자는 이날 국회 기획재정위원회 인사청문회에서 역사 인식 논란에 대해 "생각이 짧았고 정말 죄송스럽게 생각한다"며 이같이 말했다.

그는 앞서 1995년 석사학위 논문 '우리나라 현대 국무총리와 정치적 위상에 관한 연구'에서 '광주 사태'와 '12·12 거사'라는 표현을 사용해 논란이 일었다.

강 후보자는 "당시 참고 문헌과 언론 기사에 사용됐던 표현을 그대로 인용한 것"이라며 "대학원생 시절에 큰 성찰 없이 작성했던 표현으로 가슴을 아프게 한 분들께 진심으로 사과드린다"고 했다.

그러면서 "5·18 민주화운동이 얼마나 가슴 아픈 사건이고 대한민국 자유민주주의 초석을 놓는 숭고한 사건이라는 것을 알고 있다"고 부연했다.

이날 야당 의원들은 강 후보자 처가의 연 매출 8천억원대 기업집단 '유창'에 대해서도 질의를 이어갔다.

천하람 개혁신당 의원은 해당 회사에서 지난 5년간 임금 체불 등으로 다수의 근로 관계 법률 위반 사례가 있었다고 지적했고,로또 당첨되면 문자강 후보자는 "직접 경영한 적은 없지만 송구스럽다"고 답했다.
