9월 해녀축제서 창립대회…국가 차원 정책 요구

24일 제주도에 따르면 전국 8개 연안 시도 해녀 대표 20여명은 발기인대회 기간 준비위원회를 구성하고 9월 열리는 '제17회 제주해녀축제'에서 전국해녀협회를 창립할 계획이다.

전국해녀협회는 지방자치단체별로 제각각인 해녀 보전정책을 정비해 국가 차원의 해녀 지원 정책을 수립하도록 하는 역할을 하게 된다.

앞서 지난해에는 부산·경북·울산·경남·제주 등 5개 광역자치단체 해녀가 참여하는 토론회가 잇따라 열렸다.

이 토론회를 통해 각 지역 해녀는 전국해녀협회를 설립하기로 뜻을 모았다.

전국 8개 연안 시도 해녀 관련 업무 담당 공무원들도 행정실무협의회를 구성해 뒷받침하기로 했다.

현재 국내에는 1만여 명의 해녀가 활동하는 것으로 추산된다.

정재철 제주도 해양수산국장은 "이번 발기인대회는 전국해녀협회 설립을 위한 실질적 출발점"이라며 "앞으로 대한민국 해녀문화의 보전과 전승을 위해 제주도가 앞장서겠다"고 말했다.
