대구시는 동대구역 앞 시민 공간에 '박정희 광장' 이라는 이름을 붙이고 오늘 제막식을 열었습니다.

시민단체들은 "독립군을 탄압한 독재자의 이름을 달았다"며 반발했습니다.

동대구역 앞에 5m 기둥이 우뚝 섰습니다.

대구를 대표하는 관문 앞 시민들 공간에 '박정희 광장' 이름표가 붙은 겁니다.

이곳에는 박 전 대통령의 동상도 곧 들어설 예정입니다.

대구시는 경제 성장을 이룬 박 전 대통령의 공을 기려야 한다고 밝혔습니다.

"올해 안에 박정희 동상을 세워 박정희 대통령의 산업화 정신을 시민들과 함께 기념할 생각입니다."

하지만 제막식이 열린 바로 뒤에선 박정희 광장 명명에 반대하는 집회가 열렸습니다.

대구 지역 시민사회 활동가들과 5개 야당 인사 수십 명이 모였습니다.

"박정희 우상화 사업 즉시 중단하라!중단하라!중단하라!"

이들은 특히 "광복절을 하루 앞두고 독립군을 탄압했던 독재자의 이름을 광장에 세우느냐"고 규탄했습니다.

박 전 대통령 우상화 사업에 대해 대구 시민단체 등의 반대 목소리가 높아지는 가운데,마이크로 게임 슬롯대구시는 현재 짓고 있는 '대구대표도서관' 앞에도 박정희 공원을 만들 계획입니다.
