[앵커]

16명의 사상자를 낸 시청역 역주행 사고는 운전자의 과실로 보인다는 국립과학수사연구원의 감정 결과가 나왔습니다.

최근 이 같은 감정결과를 통보받은 경찰은 실체적 진실에 근접했다고 본다며 곧 수사를 마무리할 계획이라고 공민경 기자의 보도입니다.

[리포트]

서울 도심 도로를 무서운 속도로 역주행하고,인도를 덮쳐 9명의 목숨을 앗아간 사고 차량.

운전자는 급발진 사고를 주장했지만,사고 원인에 대한 논란은 계속됐습니다.

국립과학수사연구원이 이 사고의 원인을 차량 결함보다는 운전자 과실로 판단한 것으로 알려졌습니다.

사고 차량 차체와 블랙박스,사고기록장치 등을 감정한 뒤 내린 결론입니다.

조지호 서울경찰청장은 "지난주에 국과수로부터 통보를 받아 분석을 마무리했다"면서 "전반적으로 실체적 진실에 근접했다"고 밝혔습니다.

감정 결과엔 사고 당시 운전자 차 모 씨가 가속 페달을 밟았고,브레이크를 밟은 흔적은 없는 것으로 알려졌습니다.

CCTV 영상 등에 차량 브레이크등이 켜진 것으로 보이는 점에 대해선 외부충격에 의해 전자적 오작동이 생겼을 가능성이 있다는 내용도 담긴 것으로 전해졌습니다.

보통 사고 차량에 대한 국과수 감정은 1~2개월 정도 걸리지만 이번엔 사고의 중대성을 고려해 더 일찍 통보가 온 것입니다.

조 청장은 "사고기록장치 뿐 아니라 기대하지 않은 곳에서도 결정적인 것이 나왔다"면서 "운전자 진술을 확인하고 나면 더 이상 수사할 게 없을 것 같다"고 말했습니다.

갈비뼈 골절로 사고 직후 서울대병원에 입원했던 차 씨는 오늘 다른 병원으로 옮겼는데,경찰은 이번 주 안에 차 씨에 대한 3차 조사를 진행할 계획입니다.
