(서울=연합뉴스) 김아람 기자 = GS칼텍스가 재활용 플라스틱 비중을 확대한 신규 윤활유 용기를 개발해 플라스틱 순환 경제에 앞장선다.

GS칼텍스는 새로운 3-레이어(Layer) 디자인을 적용한 윤활유 용기를 개발해 자사 제품에 적용하기 시작했다고 26일 밝혔다.

이 용기는 국내 윤활유 시장에서 일반적인 한 겹 용기 디자인에서 탈피한 새로운 형태로,무료 동전이 있는 무료 슬롯일반 플라스틱 원료에 재활용 플라스틱 원료 30%를 혼용한 세 겹 디자인으로 구성됐다.

윤활유 용기의 구조적 안정성을 강화해 사용되는 총 플라스틱 양을 약 15% 절감했으며,무료 동전이 있는 무료 슬롯재활용 플라스틱 비중을 기존 20%에서 30%로 높였다.

신규 용기는 6L용 제품 절반에 적용됐으며,무료 동전이 있는 무료 슬롯향후 1L 및 4L 용기 등에 확대 적용해 재활용 플라스틱 활용을 늘려 나갈 예정이다.

GS칼텍스는 지난해 10월부터 자체 생산하는 모든 플라스틱 윤활유 용기에 자사의 물리적 재활용 기술로 만든 재활용 플라스틱 원료가 20% 포함되도록 했다.

윤활유 용기 생산에 쓰이는 재활용 플라스틱 양은 연 700t 규모에 이른다.

GS칼텍스는 "신규 용기를 선도적으로 개발해 일반 플라스틱 사용량을 줄이고 재활용 플라스틱 사용량을 늘릴 수 있게 됐다"며 "향후에도 탄소 저감 제품의 활용성을 높여갈 예정"이라고 밝혔다.
