30여 명의 사상자가 발생한 경기 화성 일차전지 업체 아리셀 공장 화재 사고 사망자를 기리기 위한 분향소에서 한 지역 파출소장이 "나라 지키다 죽었나"라는 식의 발언을 해 논란입니다.

28일 '화성 공장 화재 이주민 공동 대책 위원회'(대책위)에 따르면 전날 낮 안산시 단원구 원곡동 다문화공원에 사망자를 기리기 위한 분향소가 설치됐습니다.

이 과정에서 현장을 찾은 관할 파출소장인 A씨가 대책위 측에 지자체의 허가를 받았는지 물었고,오늘의로또운세대책위 측은 "신청했으나 허가를 받지 않았다"고 답했습니다.

문제는 이다음에 이어진 A씨의 발언이었습니다.

A씨는 대책위 측에 "분향소는 나라를 지키다가 돌아가신 분들을 위해 설치하는 것 아닌가요?"라면서 분향소 설치에 대해 의문을 제기했습니다.

이에 대책위 관계자들은 "그렇다면 나라를 위해 돌아가신 분만 추모를 해야 하는 것인가"고 받아치며 실랑이가 벌어졌습니다.

이 같은 사실이 알려지자 "유족에게 사과해야 한다",오늘의로또운세"이주민들도 누군가의 가족이고 귀한 생명 아닌가"라는 등 여론의 뭇매가 이어졌습니다.

논란이 되자 경기남부경찰청 측은 "A씨가 부적절한 발언을 한 것으로 확인됐다"며 "큰 상처를 입었을 이주민 단체 측과 유족에게 사과하고 깊이 반성하고 있다"고 전했습니다.

앞서 지난 24일 오전 10시 반쯤 화성시 서신면 전곡리 아리셀 공장에서 화재가 발생해 모두 23명이 숨지고,오늘의로또운세8명이 다쳤습니다.

사망자 중 5명을 제외한 나머지 18명은 외국인 노동자로 확인됐습니다.
