(뉴욕=연합뉴스) 진정호 연합인포맥스 특파원 = 뉴욕 유가가 소폭 상승했다.미국 물가상승률이 꺾였다는 소식에 9월 금리 인하 기대감이 강해지면서 유가를 밀어 올렸다.

11일(현지시간) 뉴욕상업거래소에서 근월물인 8월 인도분 서부텍사스산 원유(WTI)는 전 거래일보다 0.52달러(0.63%) 오른 배럴당 82.62달러에 거래를 마쳤다.

글로벌 벤치마크인 브렌트유 9월 인도분 가격은 전장 대비 0.32달러(0.38%) 상승한 배럴당 85.40달러에 거래를 마쳤다.

이날 유가는 미국 6월 소비자물가지수(CPI)가 '깜짝 하락'했다는 소식에 매수 심리가 강해졌다.

미국 노동부는 6월 CPI가 전월보다 0.1% 하락했다고 발표했다.CPI가 전월보다 하락한 것은 코로나19 팬데믹이 정점이었던 2020년 5월 이후 처음이다.

6월 CPI의 월간 상승률은 연합인포맥스의 시장 예상치(화면번호 8808) 0.1%도 하회했다.지난 5월 수치(보합)에 비해서도 더 둔화했다.

지난해 같은 기간과 비교하면 3.0% 상승했다.또한 2021년 4월 이후 가장 낮은 상승률이다.

예상 밖으로 물가상승률이 꺾이면서 연방준비제도(Fed·연준)가 9월 금리 인하를 개시할 것이라는 관측은 기정사실화하는 분위기다.

연준이 금리를 내리면 소비가 촉진되고 유가 수요도 늘어나는 경향이 있다.금리인하는 유가에 롱(매수) 재료로 여겨진다.

다만 연준이 금리를 내려야 하는 이유는 경기둔화 우려 때문이기도 하다.그런 점에서 금리 인하가 원유 수요 증가로 직결될지는 미지수다.

국제에너지기구(IEA)는 올해 전 세계 원유 수요 성장세가 하루 71만배럴로 둔화할 것이라고 지난 2분기 발표한 바 있다.이는 2022년 4분기 이후 가장 느린 속도다.중국 경제 위축으로 소비가 악화한 여파다.

반면 석유수출국기구(OPEC)는 IEA보다 더 낙관적이다.올해 전 세계 경제 성장률을 2.9%로 예상하면서 올해 원유 수요도 하루 220만배럴 성장할 것이라고 전망했다.

스톤X의 알렉스 호즈 분석가는 "석유수출국기구(OPEC)와 IEA의 수요 전망은 통상적인 수준보다 더 괴리가 커졌다"며 "부분적으로는 청정 에너지로 전환하는 속도에 대해 의견이 갈리기 때문"이라고 말했다.
