유바이오로직스의 코로나19 백신 '유코백-19'

(서울=연합뉴스) 김현수 기자 = 유바이오로직스는 코로나19 백신 '유코백-19'에 대한 국내 부스터샷(추가 접종) 임상 1·2상 시험을 자진 취하했다고 13일 공시했다.

유바이오로직스는 2022년 12월 식품의약품안전처로부터 당시 화이자·모더나 등 국내에서 허가된 코로나19 백신을 접종한 환자를 대상으로 유코백-19를 추가 접종하기 위한 임상 1·2상 시험 계획(IND)을 승인받았다.

그러나 유바이오로직스는 IND 승인 시점에 코로나19 변이에 대한 추가 백신 접종이 이미 시작됨에 따라 우한주 모체 바이러스를 대상으로 하는 임상 환자를 확보하기 어려웠다고 임상 종료 배경을 설명했다.

앞서,로스트아크 토토실버 섬유바이로직스는 지난 1월 코로나19 백신 미접종자·미감염자 확보의 어려움 등을 이유로 유코백-19 국내 임상 3상을 조기 종료한 바 있다.

당시 회사는 해당 임상 3상 자료를 같은 플랫폼에서 개발 중인 코로나19 XBB.1.5 변이 대응 백신에 인용할 수 있다고 설명했다.

이에 대해 유바이오로직스 관계자는 "코로나19 감염·전파 및 시장 상황 등을 고려해 코로나19 XBB.1.5 변이 대응 백신에 대한 지속 개발 여부도 검토할 예정"이라고 말했다.

해당 관계자에 따르면 유바이오로직스는 현재 필리핀에서 유코백-19 임상 3상을 완료하고,로스트아크 토토실버 섬최종결과보고서(CSR)를 기다리고 있다.
