미국 식품의약국(FDA)이 알츠하이머의 초기 치료제 '도나네맙'(Donanemab)을 승인했다.

알츠하이머는 뇌에서 '베타 아밀로이드' 단백질이 축적되면서 발생한다.도나네맙은 해당 단백질의 축적을 막으면서 알츠하이머의 초기 진행 속도를 늦춘다.지난해 FDA를 통과한 미국 바이오젠과 일본 에자이가 공동 개발한 '레켐비'도 같은 방식이다.

일라이릴리가 실시한 임상시험에서 도나네맙은 기억력과 사고력 장애 진행 속도를 29% 늦춘 것으로 나타났다.처방을 받은 환자 중 약 4분의 1은 뇌부종을,약 3분의 1은 뇌출혈을 일으켰으나 대부분 경미했다.

특히 도나네맙은 뇌 스캔을 통해 베타 아밀로이드의 축적이 나타나지 않을 경우 약물 투여를 중단할 수 있다고 통신은 설명했다.또한 레켐비는 2주마다 투여해야 하는 반면 도나네맙은 한 달에 한 번만 투여하면 된다.
