구글이 AI 열풍으로 자사 데이터센터에 대한 의존도가 커지면서 온실가스 배출량이 5년 사이 48% 증가했다고 밝혔습니다.

구글이 현지시간 2일 발표한 연례 환경보고서에 따르면,난바 도톤보리 호텔지난해 구글의 온실가스 배출량이 전년도보다 13% 늘어난 1천430만 톤에 달했습니다.

구글은 AI에 대한 집중적인 투자 여파로 데이터 센터의 소비전력량과 공급망에서 발생하는 배출량이 증가한 것이 온실가스 배출 급증의 가장 큰 원인이라고 분석했습니다.

구글은 오는 2030년까지 탄소 중립 달성 목표를 지키기 쉽지 않을 것이라면서 "AI가 미래 환경에 어떤 영향을 미칠지는 복잡하고 예측하기가 어렵다"고 설명했습니다.
