[헤럴드경제=김지윤 기자] 삼성SDI가 미국 최대 전력 기업인 넥스트에라에너지에 1조원대 규모의 에너지저장장치(ESS)용 배터리를 납품한다.

5일 업계에 따르면 삼성SDI는 넥스트에라에너지에 총용량 6.3GWh의 배터리를 조만간 공급할 것으로 알려졌다.본계약 체결을 앞두고,우리나라 카지노 산업막바지 조율 작업이 진행 중인 것으로 전해진다.

공급 규모만 지난해 북미 전체 ESS 용량(55GWh)의 11.5％에 해당하며 금액으로는 1조원 수준이다.

넥스트에라에너지에 공급하는 주력 제품은‘삼성 배터리 박스(SBB) 1.5’다.해당 제품은 지난달 말 독일에서 열린‘인터배터리 유럽 2024’에서 공개되기도 했다.

SBB는 20피트 컨테이너 박스에 하이니켈 NCA(니켈·코발트·알루미늄) 배터리 셀과 모듈,우리나라 카지노 산업랙 등을 설치한 ESS 제품이다.내부 공간을 효율화해 더 많은 양의 배터리를 적재할 수 있다는 점이 특징이다.컨테이너 단위 에너지밀도가 기존 제품 대비 37％가량 향상됐다.

이번 공급으로 삼성SDI가 중국이 현재 장악하고 있는 글로벌 ESS용 시장에서 존재감을 드러낼 것으로 기대된다.

업계에 따르면 미국 ESS 시장은 올해 79억달러(약 10조9000억원)에서 2030년 187억달러(약 25조8000억원)로 확대될 전망이다.배터리 업계 관계자는 “조만간 본계약이 체결될 가능성이 크다”고 설명했다.
