동아일보 취재를 종합하면 강원경찰청 수사전담팀은 18일 강모 중대장(대위)과 남모 부중대장(중위)에게 직권남용 가혹행위와 업무상 과실치사 혐의를 적용해 검찰에 구속영장을 신청했다.경찰은 이들이 지난달 23일 연병장에서 A 씨 등 훈련병 6명에게 완전 군장 상태로 전력 질주와 팔굽혀펴기 등의 군기훈련을 시키는 등 가혹행위를 했다고 판단했다.

군기훈련 중 쓰러진 훈련병 A 씨는 민간병원으로 응급 이송됐지만 이틀 뒤인 지난달 25일 오후 3시경 사망했다.경찰은 강 중대장과 남 부중대장이‘살인의 고의성’은 없었다고 보고 살인 혐의가 아닌 업무상 과실치사 혐의를 적용했다.춘천지검 형사1부(부장검사 오세문)는 경찰이 신청한 구속영장을 검토해 청구 여부를 결정할 방침이다.
