생산량 기준 세계 10위권의 산유국인 쿠웨이트에서 자국의 3년 치 원유 생산량이 매장된 유전이 추가로 발견됐다.유전의 면적만 여의도의 33배 크기다.

14일(현지시간) 로이터통신은 쿠웨이트석유공사(KPC)가 파일라카섬 동쪽 알누키타 해상유전에서 면적 96㎢로 추정되는 매장 지대를 발견했다고 보도했다.96㎢는 여의도의 33배 크기다.KPC는 "거대한 유전을 발견했다"고 밝혔다.

KPC는 해당 지대에 경질유 21억 배럴,비트 플라이어천연가스 5조1000억표준입방피트(SCF)가 매장돼 있다고 추정했다.천연가스를 석유로 환산하면 전체 추정 매장량은 32억 배럴이다.

셰이크 나와프 사우드 나시르 알 살바 KPC CEO는 본인의 X(엑스)를 통해 "새로 발견한 지역의 매장량은 3년 치 국가 전체 생산량과 맞먹는다"고 설명했다.KPC는 가능한 서둘러 실제 생산을 시작하기 위한 계획을 세울 방침이다.

쿠웨이트는 전 세계 석유 매장량 6위,비트 플라이어생산량 10위권의 국가다.현재 하루 평균 248만 배럴의 원유를 생산하고 있다.2035년까지 하루 생산량을 400만 배럴로 늘릴 계획이다.
