쿠웨이트서 3년치 산유량 매장지 발견돼

세계 10위 산유국 쿠웨이트에서 3년 치 원유 생산량에 맞먹는 거대 유전이 발견됐다.

14일(현지시간) 로이터·블룸버그 통신에 따르면 쿠웨이트 석유공사(KPC)는 이날 파일라카섬 동쪽 알누키타 해상 유전에서 면적 약 96㎢로 추정되는 매장지대를 발견해 셰이크 마슈알 알아마드 알자베르 알사바 군주(에미르)에게 보고했다.

KPC가 소셜미디어 X(엑스)에 올린 동영상에서 샤이크 나와프 알 사바 최고경영자(CEO)는 “새로 발견한 유전은 지난 3년간의 원유 총생산량과 비슷하며 초기 추정 면적은 약 96㎢”라고 말했다.여의도 면적(약 2.9㎢)의 33배 수준이다.

KPC는 경질유 21억 배럴,천연가스 5조1000억 표준입방피트(SCF)가 매장된 것으로 추정했다.천연가스를 석유로 환산하면 전체 추정 매장량은 32억 배럴에 달한다.회사 측은 가능한 한 빨리 현장에서 실제 생산을 시작하기 위한 계획을 마련하겠다고 밝혔다.

쿠웨이트는 현재 하루에 약 248만배럴의 원유를 생산하는 국가로 석유 매장량 6위,2570생산량은 10위권에 든다.석유수출국기구(OPEC)에서 다섯번째로 큰 산유국이다.쿠웨이트는 2035년까지 원유 일 생산량을 400만 배럴까지 확대하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.
