모건스탠리 "주가 오르기 어렵지만 대세하락도 없다"

이달 초 급락하며 투자자들을 공포에 떨게 하던 미국 주식시장이 2주 만에 많이 회복했지만 미국 경제가 침체에 빠질 가능성은 남아 있다는 평가가 이어지고 있습니다.

골드만삭스와 JP모건 체이스 등 월가의 대형 투자은행들은 침체 가능성이 수개월 전에 비해 커졌다고 지적했습니다.

13일(이하 현지시간) 블룸버그통신에 따르면 골드만삭스가 주식과 채권시장의 자금 유출입을 분석하는 모델을 활용해 경기침체 가능성을 예측한 결과,wnbl미국 경기침체 확률은 4월의 29%에서 최근 41%로 상승했습니다.

침체확률이 이처럼 높아진 것은 연방준비제도(Fed·연준)가 공격적으로 금리를 인하할 가능성이 커진 반면 경기 사이클에 극도로 민감한 주식시장에서는 오히려 주가가 하락했기 때문으로 보입니다.

JP모건의 유사한 모델에서도 3월 말 20%이던 경기침체 가능성은 31%로 올랐습니다.

미국 채권 시장의 급격한 조정 장세가 반영된 것으로 보입니다.

JP모건의 니콜라오스 파니기르조글루 스트래티지스트는 최근 보고서에서 주식시장 모델로만 보면 경기침체 가능성은 5분의 1에 불과하지만 올초 증시가 사상 최고치를 경신하며 랠리를 펼쳤을 때는 이 가능성이 '제로(0)'에 가까웠다는 점을 기억해야 한다고 지적했습니다.

그는 "미국의 신용 및 주식 시장은 금리 시장과 단절된 모습을 보이고 있다"면서 "8월 미국 가계 조사 결과가 7월과 비슷하게 부진해 경기 침체론에 힘을 실어준다면 주식시장은 상당한 약세를 보일 것"이라고 말했습니다.

실제로 금리 시장은 높은 경기침체 가능성을 반영하고 있습니다.

골드만삭스 모델에 따르면 연준 기준금리의 12개월 선행 내재 변동치는 내년 경기 침체 확률을 92%로 나타냈습니다.

5년 만기 국채 금리로 분석하는 JP모건의 모델도 경기 침체 확률을 58%로 봤습니다.

이에 비해 신용 및 모기지 시장에서는 위험 수준이 진정됐다는 신호가 많이 나타났습니다.
