(멕시코시티=연합뉴스) 이재림 특파원 = 오는 8월부터 한국으로의 직항 하늘길을 다시 여는 멕시코 국적 항공사 아에로멕시코가 한국과 멕시코 간 국민과 기업을 잇는 다리 역할을 하겠다는 각오를 밝혔다.

파스쿠알레 스페란사 아에로멕시코 부회장(해외영업 담당)은 18일(현지시간) 미국 접경 멕시코 북부 누에보레온주(州) 몬테레이에서 연 설명회에서 "우리는 이번 재취항으로 양국을 오가는 주민과 기업 관계자에게 편리한 항공편을 제공할 것"이라며 "관광객과 기업인을 잇는 역할을 할 것으로 기대한다"고 강조했다.

8월 1일부터 멕시코시티∼인천을 직접 연결하는 이 노선은 매일 운항된다.

중남미로의 직항 항공편이 생긴 건 지난 2022년 6월 직항이 잠정 중단된 이후 2년여 만이다.

멕시코시티발 인천행 항공편의 경우 몬테레이에서 한 차례 경유한다.

'멕시코 산업 수도'라고 불리는 몬테레이와 그 주변 위성도시에는 LG전자와 기아를 비롯해 300여개의 한국 기업 관련 법인이 몰려 있다.
