삼성전자가 구글과 손잡고 연내 확장현실(XR) 플랫폼을 선보인다.XR 시장에 먼저 진출한 애플과 본격적인 주도권 경합이 펼쳐질 것으로 전망된다.

노태문 삼성전자 모바일경험(MX)사업부장(사장)은 10일(현지시간) 프랑스 파리 카루젤 뒤 루브르에서 열린‘갤럭시 언팩 2024’에서 “올해 선보일 새 XR 플랫폼도 기대해 달라”며 깜짝 발표했다.삼성전자는 지난해 2월 갤럭시 S23 시리즈를 공개한 언팩 행사에서 구글,퀄컴과 함께 XR 사업에 협력하고 있다고 밝힌 바 있다.XR은 실제와 가상 세계를 결합해 확장된 현실을 창조하는 기술이다.

올해 하반기 XR 기기가 나올 것이라는 소문이 무성했으나 삼성전자가 XR 플랫폼 출시를 공개적으로 예고한 것은 처음이다.노 사장은 언팩 행사 이후 기자들과 만나 “기기를 먼저 내놓고 생태계를 만드는 것이 아니라 생태계를 만들고 제품을 출시해야 한다는 방향으로 결정했다”면서 “올해 내로 에코(연동) 시스템 관련 부분들을 준비해서 공개하겠다”고 밝혔다.

이번 언팩 행사에서 스마트 반지 갤럭시 링(사진)도 큰 관심을 받았다.삼성전자는 스마트폰에 탑재한 인공지능(AI) 기술을 작은 반지로 확장,사용자의 건강 관리 경험을 좀 더 간편한 방식으로 혁신하겠다는 목표를 세웠다.갤럭시 링은 갤럭시 제품군 중 가장 작은 폼팩터(형태)다.시계 형태인‘갤럭시 워치’보다 작고 가볍다.24시간,365일 지속적으로 착용해야 효과가 높은 디지털 건강 관리에 더욱 유리할 것으로 전망된다.기능도 건강 관리에 초점을 맞췄다.갤럭시 링 사용자는 매일 아침 기상 후 전날 밤의 수면 점수와 다양한 건강 지표를 삼성 헬스 앱에서 확인 가능하다.수면 중 움직임,스포츠 배팅 전략심박수,스포츠 배팅 전략호흡수를 비롯해 잠들기까지 걸린 시간 등의 정보를 볼 수 있다.삼성전자는 이날 언팩 행사에서 갤럭시 워치 신제품도 공개했다.라인업에 새롭게 추가된‘갤럭시 워치 울트라’는 본체를 감싸는 쿠션 디자인을 더하고 티타늄 프레임을 적용해 내구성을 높였다.
