서울시는 개고기를 다른 음식으로 둔갑시켜 파는 행위를 가려내기 위한 검사체계를 전국 지방자치단체 최초로 구축했다고 14일 밝혔다.

개 식용 종식법에 따라 오는 2027년 2월부터 식용을 목적으로 개를 사육·증식·도살하거나 개를 원료로 조리·가공한 식품을 팔 수 없다.

이번 검사체계는 개고기 음식이지만 법망을 피할 목적으로 다른 고기라고 속여 파는 행위를 잡아내기 위해 구축됐다.

서울시 보건환경연구원은 지난 6월 개 종 감별 키트를 제작했다.개 DNA에서만 유전자가 증폭되는 방식으로 개고기를 다른 식육으로 둔갑해 판매하는지 판독할 수 있다.

서울시는 지난 2월 개 식용 종식 TF를 구성해 관련 유통 상인으로부터 전업이나 폐업 신고를 받는 등 개 식용 종식법 이행도 준비중이다.

서울의 개 식용 유통업자 및 식품접객업자 479개소는 모두 폐업·전업에 관한 사항이 포함된 개 식용 종식 이행계획서를 시에 제출했다.
