임성근 전 해병대 1사단장이 14일 경북 경산시 경북경찰청 형사기동대에서 '해병대 채상병 순직 사건'과 관련해 22시간이 넘는 조사를 받고 청사를 나서고 있다.[연합뉴스] 경찰이 해병대 채상병 순직 사건으로 고발된 임성근 전 해병대 사단장에 대해 8일 불송치 결정을 내렸다.

경북경찰청은 해병대원 사망사고와 관련해 피의자 9명을 업무상과실치사 등의 혐의로 수사한 결과 A여단장 등 현장 지휘관 6명을 업무상과실치사 혐의로 송치하기로 했다.

업무상과실치사와 직권남용 등의 혐의를 받는 임 전 사단장에 대해서는 불송치하기로 했다.

임 전 사단장은 지난해 8월 포병대대 7본부 대대장 이용민 중령의 법률대리인인 김경호 변호사에 의해 '업무상과실치사',포수 글러브직권남용' 등 혐의로 경찰에 고발됐다.

경찰은 군·소방·지자체 등 관련자 67명과 현장감식,포수 글러브해병대 1사단 압수수색 등으로 확보한 190여점의 자료를 분석했다고 설명했다.

채 상병은 지난해 7월 19일 경북 예천 수해 실종자 수색 현장에 투입됐다 급류에 휩쓸려 순직했다.
