현지시간 6일 로이터통신에 따르면 애플은 유럽에서 게임 제작사 에픽게임즈의 앱 마켓 출시를 허용했습니다.
인기 게임 포트나이트 등을 제작한 에픽게임즈는 지난 2020년부터 앱스토어 운영과 관련해 애플과 길고 긴 법적 분쟁을 벌여왔습니다.애플이 자체 앱스토어 운영을 막아서며 시장을 독점하려 한다는 주장이었는데,2022 아시안컵 남자지난 1월 미 법원은 외부 결제 시스템을 허용하지 않는 애플의 행태가 경쟁을 제한한다고 판단하며 에픽게임즈의 손을 들어준 바 있습니다.
애플의 이번 결정은 EU의 디지털시장법(DMA)을 의식한 조치로 풀이됩니다.
지난 달 EU 집행위는 애플의 앱스토어 규정이 DMA를 위반했다고 잠정 결론 내린 바 있습니다.이른바 빅테크 '갑질 방지법'으로 불리는 DMA를 위반하면 전 세계 매출의 최대 10%에 해당하는 과징금이 부과될 수 있고 반복적 위반이라고 판단되면 과징금이 최대 20%까지 오를 수 있습니다.
