삼성전자가 새 폴더블 스마트폰인 '갤럭시 Z 폴드6'와 '플립6'의 공개를 앞둔 가운데 방송통신위원회가 '사기 피해 주의보'를 발령했다.신형 스마트폰 출시로 유통 현장에서 판촉 경쟁이 치열해지는데 소비자 피해가 발생할 수 있다는 것이다.

방통위는 4일 "삼성전자의 새 폴더블 스마트폰이 출시되는 7월 24일을 앞두고 허위·과장·기만 광고를 통한 휴대폰 사기 판매 피해가 발생할 수 있다"면서 이용자의 각별한 주의를 당부한다고 밝혔다.

일명 '성지점'으로 불리는 온라인 스마트폰 유통점은 최신 스마트폰을 저렴하게 살 수 있다고 영업하지만 실제로는 지원금 지급을 위해 또 다른 계약을 요구하거나 선택 약정 할인·신용카드 제휴 할인 등을 유통점이 스마트폰을 할인하는 것처럼 설명하는 경우가 있다.또 스마트워치·태블릿 등을 무료로 증정하겠다며 고가의 요금제나 부가 서비스 가입을 유도하는 사례도 있다.

방통위는 이런 사례를 속임수 판매로 규정하고 "터무니없이 저렴한 구매 금액을 제시하는 경우 할인 조건과 할부 원금 등을 꼼꼼하게 확인할 필요가 있다"고 밝혔다.방통위 또한 통신사·방송통신이용자보호협회 등과 함께 시장 모니터링과 법 위반 여부에 대한 현장 점검을 강화할 계획이다.
